The mere fact that some kernel vulnerabilities were discovered in an event SPECIFICALLY devoted to finding such things does not mean our OS X is unsafe. It is by far the MOST secure system out there, with 40 million or 400 million users, and nobody has been able to prove the opposite so far.

The guy heading up the MOKB thing said that MacOSX's kernel (XNU) was the easiest kernel to crack. If that makes you feel safe, then go ahead and feel safe, but for me, even though I use extremely good security practices and networking measures, I still would rather have Apple get serious aboud security and start hardening their system more so that guys who are only fuzzing and stress testing can't come up with 10 vulnerabilities in a month.

The only thing I can suggest (which I doubt anyone will follow) is to avoid the hysteria. When a real threat emerges, you'll most likely hear about it long before you are actually in any danger from it.

Funny thing is that I don't see anyone in this forum going into hysteria about this other than the people saying that "this is a load of FUD." Why is it such a shock that MacOSX can be vulnerable? No, it hasn't been exploited to any large extent, but vulnerabilities open up the door to exploits, and the only thing that is keeping us away from having exploits happen is our market share. You may not want to hear that, but as long as we are below 10% of the market, people simply aren't going to target our vulnerabilities, but are going to target MS's vulnerabilities.

The problem of course, is that our Market Share is going up, and so we will likely be a larger target for hackers. So if these vulnerabilities keep popping up in this frequency, that becomes a major issue for the exploitation problem as time goes on.

Also, I'm more concerned with iOS 5 and what it'll bring, than I am with what new specs the iPhone 5 will have.

Some of us avoid animal products for ethical reasons (no leather shoes or belts, vegetarian diet etc). Can we disable the "leather" chrome?

Ha sound like me...typical college student. I've been selling stuff and have returned about 4 things in the past week because they all sucked!

I don't think this is indicative of a college student. I think it's smart to return things that aren't suited for you. I can think of many people who shop for clothes, for example, and they sit around with the tags on until they're given away because they're too small, dated, etc. ;)

The frustration I feel when going from a Mighty Mouse with ball to a mouse with a scroll wheel, is the same as when going from a mouse with a scroll wheel to one with none. What a pity it requires a lot of rubbing/wiping and/or disassembling to keep it working!

3 months... Or more, we don't know, that's the problem. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S2, an outstanding phone(reviews say), will be in the market. Apple, wake up.

Too bad the phone will be on the market for 6 months without a single software update then release a new phone telling customers if they want bugs fixed they'll have to buy a new phone rather than expecting a free software update. The fact that people take seriously Samsung's mobile phones really shows what a legion of drones there are out there - if Samsung aren't abandoning their Android users at the earliest instance they're screwing up WP7 updates.

Which makes it even MORE odd that it's enabled by default in MacTels, which don't run Classic.

Hmm. I'm running a 17" MacBook Pro with 10.4.8 and when I checked under both Ethernet and Airport Appletalk was not enabled. On this machine I have never set it one way or the other.

The reason you don't see it much is because the new default in XP is to just reboot the machine instead of sitting on that screen. It's still there.

also the blue screen of death is not really in XP. Yeah the screen is blue and cause a reboot but it is a very differnt screen compared to the one that was in the windows 9.x line and has very different infomation displayed in it.

Now the screen is still blue and cause a reboot but it also a lot rarer to see it and does not really happen as offen. But it not the same blue screen of death so it tecnolly XP does not have THE blue screen of death. it has a different blue screen of death.

Um, are you not the same person who applauded the Columbine shootings and wished you had the balls to do something similar back in the day?
I sure am. But I would never have shot people who had never harmed me in the first place, and I suppose the same applies to Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

Oh, and even though nothing constructive comes out of the partying, it can be fun anyway. I'm not telling anyone to stop - on the contrary, I would probably join the celebrations if I had been there now.

just goes to show people still want to be able to see flash on their iphones reguardless of how bloated

Not an accurate deduction from this app's popularity.

See, this app is a very slick implementation of Flash on the iOS. No bloat, and everything's fast and battery efficient, because iOS sees it as HTML5. All the bloat and processing is on the Skyfire servers.

All you can tell from Skyfire's success is that people want Flash as long as it is as good or better than HTML5.

i have parallels and it works great for me except the whole video thing. i work a lot with video and so that is of course why i got a mac pro :D , but as a freelancer not everything is in final cut so i thought i'd install avid in parallels. well it doesn't think i have a video card and thus wont let me do anything  so if vmware can do that then sign me up.

i also like the whole drag and drop idea, i dont know exactly if parallels can do that, i know you can share a folder, but i picture draging a file from my left monitor(s) to my full screen pc on my right monitor's desktop and it just popping up. that'd be neat but not enough for the switch from parallels.

this is good though because it'll make parallels step it up even more and we'll get some more features quicker.

...Anyone heard anything on the "multi-touch" front lately?

I think the mouse may be killed in '07 by multi-touch innovations.

this is just microsofts way to stick it to the mac user who wants to use dual booting. not those who will use boot camp?

anyway you look at it, this is lame. Can't we just pay them and they accept our money? Now they will tell us it isn't enough, we have to pay more.

screw ms, people can't get a break FROM THESE LOSERS~!!

My friend is working an overnight with the visual team tonight at a UK apple store. that only means one thing. cannot wait for tomorrow.

My friend works for Apple too, but he is working late tomorrow night.... but also said he has been informed (from other employees) that the refresh will be tomorrow daytime. Which is a bit odd. The only reason i can think of, it maybe they are delaying the POS until the US markets/stores/etc open. I am guessing Apple wouldn't be too keen to release something whilst the natives are still asleep!.... but your friend is working tonight.... soooo

I really really hope macs are good! I have a 1500 HP, and a 1900 Sony Vaio, and both are playing up! After only 2 years!

Love the show and will be watching all the re-runs but I suggest cancelling it.
Its not going to be the same without him.
Unless you can get Robert Downey to lower his status to TV.

    So we have...
    -A few porn stars
    -A Ferrari
    -A briefcase of cocaine
    -Excessive alcohol consumption
    -A $30,000 check to a porn star

...how is this any different than 'Two and a Half Men'?

    I love this man.
minus the cocaine and I'm in.

Hopefully they use a different type of material for the back. Matte perhaps? This wouldn't be that bad, to be honest. Bigger screen, faster and a revamp of iOS 5 is all I really want.

I'm sure Apple won't disappoint & I'm almost certain they will not use this kind of material for the phone.

Very nice pictures. Looks like an "inside job"

A quote from the AppleInsider article:

Along with the filing, the traditionally tight-lipped Apple made a request for confidentiality to the FCC, one which was apparently denied.

"These documents contain detailed system and equipment description and related information about the product that Apple Computer, Inc. considers to be proprietary, confidential, and a custom design and, otherwise would not release to the general public," Apple EMC and wireless engineer Mike Kreige wrote.

    Denied? Apparently so!

Not sure if I would consider "AJA, BlackMagic, and Promise" to be "industry demand." :) I'll give ya Promise.

For video/digital cinema post & production, which NAB is all about, AJA and Blackmagic are very much major players.
